Where is Summit Windows and Doors located?

Our main office is at 710 Mersea Road 21, Wheatley, Ontario, and we have a second office in Windsor. We proudly serve homeowners across Windsor-Essex County and Chatham-Kent in southwestern Ontario.

How long has Summit been in business?

We've been installing windows and doors in southwestern Ontario for more than a decade, and we hold Window Wise Training certification. We're a family-owned business, and most of our clients come from word-of-mouth referrals.

Are your products made in Canada?

Yes. Our Vinylguard windows are 100% Canadian-made in Ontario, and our Novatech entry doors are assembled in-house at our Wheatley location by Summit professionals. Buying Canadian-made matters to us — and it matters for warranty, parts, and supply too.

Do you serve my area?

If you live in Windsor, Essex, LaSalle, Tecumseh, Lakeshore, Amherstburg, Kingsville, Leamington, Wheatley, Chatham, Blenheim, Tilbury, Ridgetown, or anywhere in between, yes — we serve your area. Outside our regular zone? Give us a call and we'll let you know.

Do you offer free quotes?

Yes — every quote starts with a free, no-obligation in-home consultation. We'll come to your home, take measurements, walk through your options, and provide a written quote. There's no cost, no pressure, and no obligation to buy.

How do I book a consultation?

Just call us at (519) 712-8516 or fill out the form on our website. You'll usually chat with Nettie at our office, and we'll book your consultation within a couple of days.

How long does the in-home consultation take?

Most consultations take 45 minutes to an hour, depending on how many windows or doors you're considering. We'll measure each opening, talk through your goals and budget, and explain the different styles, colours, and options.

Is the quote binding?

A quote is an estimate — it becomes a binding agreement only when both parties sign a written contract. Our quotes are typically valid for 30 days from the date issued.

What kind of windows do you install?

We install Vinylguard windows in more than a dozen styles, including:

What's the difference between casement and slider windows?

Casement windows open outward like a door (up to 90 degrees) using a crank handle, and they offer the best energy efficiency and tightest seal of any operating window. Slider windows open horizontally by sliding one or both sashes — they're a popular, traditional look and very easy to operate. Both styles have a place; the right choice depends on the room, the view, and your priorities.

What's the difference between single hung and double hung windows?

In a single hung window, only the bottom sash moves up and down. In a double hung, both the top and bottom sashes slide vertically. Both tilt inward for easy cleaning from inside your home.

Are vinyl windows energy efficient?

Yes — vinyl is one of the most energy-efficient frame materials available. Our Vinylguard windows are Energy Star certified, QAI certified, and Window Wise accredited, and they're made from 100% lead-free unplasticized PVC. They come standard with LowE glass, argon gas fills, and Edgetech Super Spacer technology — all features that meaningfully reduce heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer.

What is LowE glass?

LowE (low-emissivity) glass has a microscopic coating that reflects heat back to its source — keeping warmth inside your home in winter and outside in summer. It improves a window's insulating value by approximately 50% versus standard clear glass and filters out nearly twice as much UV radiation, which helps prevent fading on furniture, flooring, and drapes.

What is argon gas in a window?

Argon gas is a clear, odourless, inert gas that's used to replace the air between the panes of glass in a sealed window unit. It conducts heat about 30% less than air, which improves the window's U-value and overall energy efficiency.

Should I upgrade to triple-pane glass?

Triple-pane (also called triple glazing) uses three panes of glass with two insulated cavities between them. It can outperform standard double-pane windows by about 50% on energy efficiency. It's a worthwhile upgrade for north-facing rooms, areas with high winter heating bills, or anyone prioritizing sound dampening.

How long do new vinyl windows last?

Quality vinyl windows like Vinylguard are built to last 30+ years under normal residential use. Our Vinylguard windows are backed by a non-prorated, fully transferable Lifetime Warranty on labour and materials.

Can I get coloured windows?

Yes — Vinylguard windows are available in more than 20 exterior and interior colours, plus computer-matched custom colours. Black, bronze, beige, and contemporary dark shades are increasingly popular for that high-curb-appeal look.

What kind of entry doors do you install?

We assemble Novatech steel entry doors in-house at our Wheatley location. Models include 2 Panel Blank Top, 2 Panel Camber Top, 3 Panel Scroll Top, 4 Panel, 6 Panel (our best-seller), and contemporary designs like Era, Linea, London, Orleans, Soho, Sydney, Tao, Victoria Shaker, and Vog.

Are steel doors more secure than fiberglass?

Steel doors offer excellent security and dent resistance, especially in heavier-gauge constructions. Our N900 doors feature reinforced construction with multipoint-lock compatibility — ideal for homeowners prioritizing security. Our NHP (high-performance) doors add a 2.25" rebated frame with full air weatherstripping for maximum thermal and security performance.

What colours can I get my entry door in?

Novatech entry doors come in 24 standard paint colours — from Polytex White and Sandalwood to Bright Red, Burgundy, Old World Blue, Espresso, and Graphite. We can also create custom colours on request to perfectly match your home's exterior.

Do your entry doors come with decorative glass?

Yes. We offer a wide range of decorative doorglass options in different sizes, styles, and privacy levels — plus optional aluminum Decorative Accents (in brushed Alunox or black) for our modern Uno, Vog, Era, and Oso door models.

Will a new entry door match my garage door?

Several of our Novatech designs — including Orleans, Soho, Sydney, Victoria Shaker, and Vog — are designed to coordinate beautifully with Garaga garage doors in matching profiles for a unified front-of-home look.

Patio Doors

What kind of patio doors do you offer?

We install PVC sliding patio doors locally assembled at our Wheatley facility. Models include the 301 (minimalist, large glass), 550 (wood frame with PVC cover), Brighton, Buckingham, Imagine, Kent (one of our most popular), and Victorian.

Are your patio doors energy efficient?

Yes — all our patio doors are Energy Star compliant, with high-performance glazing, Low-E glass, and Super Spacer technology to keep your home cool in summer and warm in winter.

Can I get a patio door with built-in blinds?

Yes — our 301 patio door offers integrated miniblinds (between the glass panes) in white or satin grey. They give you privacy and light control without curtains to dust or break.

Do you install patio doors in custom sizes or shapes?

We do. Odd locations, non-standard openings, custom widths — not a problem. Custom dimensions are available on most of our patio door models.

Energy Savings & Rebates

Will new windows lower my energy bill?

Yes. According to Natural Resources Canada, homeowners save an average of 8% on their energy bills when they upgrade to Energy Star-certified windows. Your actual savings depend on your home, your current windows, climate, and habits — but most clients see a noticeable difference in comfort within the first season.

Are there government rebates for new windows in Ontario?

Several Canadian government programs (federal and provincial) periodically offer rebates and incentives for energy-efficient home upgrades. We'll walk you through the programs you may qualify for and help with referrals so you can apply. Rebate eligibility and amounts are determined by the program — not by us — but we'll point you to the right resources.

Will new windows and doors increase my home's value?

Yes. Window and door replacements consistently rank among the highest-ROI home improvements for resale value and curb appeal. Beyond resale, energy efficiency and comfort improvements pay you back every month you live in the home.

Are your windows Energy Star certified?

Yes — all our Vinylguard windows are Energy Star certified, QAI certified, and Window Wise accredited. Our patio doors are also Energy Star compliant.

Installation

Do I need to be home during installation?

It's best if you (or someone authorized) is home when the work starts so we can confirm the plan, and at the end of each day so you can see the progress. The middle of the day, you're free to go about your day — we'll take great care of your home.

How long does window installation take?

Most window replacements take 15 to 45 minutes per opening, depending on size and complexity. A typical whole-home window project takes 1 to 3 days. We'll give you a clear timeline in your written quote.

Do you remove and dispose of the old windows and doors?

Yes — we handle everything. We use drop cloths, score the trim, remove the exterior finish and caulking, take out the old units, install the new ones, clean up inside and out, and dispose of all old materials and packaging. Your only job is to enjoy your new windows.

Will I have to move my furniture or curtains?

We'll move furniture, curtains, and blinds as needed — no need to clear the room ahead of time. Just point out anything especially fragile or sentimental so we can be extra careful.

What time of year is best to replace windows?

Honestly, any season works. We install year-round in southwestern Ontario. Many homeowners prefer spring and fall for moderate temperatures, but winter installations are no problem — we work one window at a time to keep your home comfortable throughout the day.

Do I need a permit to replace my windows?

Most straightforward window and door replacements in Ontario do not require a permit, as long as the rough opening doesn't change. If your project involves enlarging an opening, adding a new window, or structural work, a permit may be required — we'll let you know during your consultation.

Warranty & Pricing

What warranty do your windows come with?

Our Vinylguard windows are backed by a non-prorated, fully transferable Lifetime Warranty on both labour and materials. "Fully transferable" means if you sell your home, the warranty transfers to the new owners — adding real value to your property.

What warranty do your entry doors come with?

Warranty depends on the construction tier:

• N300 steel doors: 5-year warranty

• N600, N700, and N900 steel doors: 10-year warranty

• Decorative Accents: 5-year warranty

• 4 Panel doors: Limited Lifetime Warranty for residential projects

How much do new windows cost in Ontario?

Window prices vary widely based on size, style, glass package, frame colour, and installation complexity. Casement windows generally cost more than sliders or single-hung. The best way to get an accurate number is a free in-home quote — we'll give you transparent pricing in writing with no surprises.

Do I have to pay a deposit?

For projects under $20,000, we generally do not require a deposit. You pay only when the work is complete and you're completely happy with it. For larger or fully custom projects, a deposit may be required — and it'll always be spelled out clearly in your written contract.

Do you offer financing?

We can talk you through financing options during your in-home consultation. Many homeowners pair their project with available government rebates, energy efficiency programs, or home improvement financing through their preferred lender.

Can I cancel after I sign a contract?

Yes. Under Ontario's Consumer Protection Act, you have a 10-day cooling-off period to cancel a written contract without penalty. After that, custom-ordered products may not be cancellable since they've already gone into production — but reach out and we'll always do what we can to be flexible.
